Not many events include an optional ‘bleisure’ programme that features a unique city, mountain and lake experience filled with adrenaline. Because this will be our first international conference, we wanted to provide you with an introduction to the best Switzerland has to offer: the unique combination of a city, mountain and lake experience, and that is what you can expect at the Event Planners Talk conference from 27–30 August 2020 in Bern, Switzerland.
Allowing you to arrive at the conference relaxed and inspired, with the space to build an initial rapport with other delegates, all whilst exploring the Bernese region, is the perfect way to clear your mind and prepare for an event that has educational focus as its core element.
The first two days of the 4-day conference will be about combining business with leisure—referred to as bleisure. We will explore the locality in the Swiss capital city of Bern, while having an informal discussion and networking with fellow event professionals. The second day will involve visiting the iconic Schilthorn, a James Bond movie location, where you can both learn about the making of the sixth James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service as well as admire the mountainous and breathtaking landscape of the Bernese Highlands. We are fascinated by this location because of its legacy and the storytelling element that it encapsulates. You will be able to immerse yourself in creativity, seeing the dedication, hard work, collaboration and excellence put into producing this film that is not only a classic but also upon its completion contributed to the economic development of this destination.
Today, the Schilthorn – Piz Gloria is an international attraction that takes visitors on an adrenaline-filled journey by letting them experience the energy and drive required to create a world-class film. And that is also what we want to inspire you to achieve in your professional career—to design world-class events. We have carefully designed this trip to offer a significant variety of activities while offering advanced educational opportunities at each step, in such a way that you get the best value for your time and money investment.
First introduction to Bern: The Capital City of Switzerland
We will begin the programme on Thursday afternoon, 27 August 2020 by heading to Bern’s Old Town and visiting some of the key landmarks, such as the Zytglogge, the Cathedral (Münster), the Parliament House, visiting the famous bear pit and concluding this walk with the stunning city views from the Rose Garden. We will have iconic photo stops for that must-have Instagram post and learn about the city’s history from an experienced city guide from Bern Welcome. Along this educational walk, you will see the many fountains around the city of Bern, the waters of which are potable, so make sure to bring a portable water bottle with you to stay hydrated on the hot August days.
We understand that the current trend that impacts our industry is ‘new work’, and we want to make the space for you to grow while maintaining your daily routine and combining work/personal life in a pleasant and fulfilling way. Therefore, we left enough time for you during the event to enjoy the programme without giving up on your work schedule completely, and while still getting high-value input from the educational and social programmes.
Whether you choose to come to Bern with your family or respond to urgent day-to-day office matters, you will have time to have the best of two worlds, combining business with leisure.
Day trip to Schilthorn: Adrenaline and relaxation
On the second day (28 August 2020), we have prepared a truly unique programme for you. We will take an early morning train from Bern main station to visit Schilthorn in the Bernese Highlands (Berner Oberland), so you will get a well-rounded and complete experience of the region, including the city, mountain and lake.
The team from Schilthorn will meet us in Interlaken, and we will have a transfer with them to the cable car that will take us to the very top of the mountain of Schilthorn – Piz Gloria.
The iconic scenes of the sixth James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Servicewere shot on the Schilthorn between 21 October 1968 and 17 May 1969. And one particularly interesting fact is, that without the film, the Schilthorn would not exist in its present form. You will have the chance to visit the James Bond exhibition that highlights the dramatic scenes from the movie and learn how the movie brought Schilthorn – Piz Gloria to global notoriety. And don’t be concerned if you haven’t seen the movie yet; the experiential exhibition on the Schilhorn will take you through all the stages of the filming, showcasing the storyline and the actors, detailing the story and showcasing best scenes as well as behind the scenes, all following in the footsteps of Secret Agent 007 – James Bond.
Afterwards, we will have brunch at their 360 degrees revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria, while enjoying the views and networking over delicious Swiss specialities.
After this thrilling visit, we will slowly head back to Bern, with an option to take a boat ride. The combination of mountain and lake experience will clear your head and make it mature for new ideas and educational content to be delivered over the following two days of the Event Planners Talk conference.
All delegates will receive a booklet with further recommendations for restaurants and local activities to explore during their free time.
Days 3 and 4
